In 40 Years, 40 Million Smokers Predicted Death Due to Tuberculosis
These estimates are presented by the World Lung Foundation, in arecent book entitled The Tobacco Atlas 4th Edition. Book compiled byMichael Eriksen, and Hana Ross Judith Mackay is a collection of dataand predictions about the tobacco in the world.
Increased risk of tuberculosis had been concern since smoking was associated with more non-communicable diseases such as cancer andheart attacks. Not many are aware, that smoking may increase the risk of TB infection.
Especially in the last 10 years, the number of smokers around theworld continue to show improvement. At a glance the percentage isdown, but it is only an effect of population growth rate is also increasing in an uncontrolled manner.
"Since the first edition of The Tobacco Atlas published a decade ago,more than 43 billion cigarettes had been smoked. In 2009 alone there are 5.9 trillion cigarettes smoked, up 13 percent in 10 years" Eriksensaid at the launch of the book in a series of 15th World Conference onTobacco or Health, Singapore, Wednesday (03/21/2012).
In addition to the various predictions about the effects of tobacco, of The Tobacco Atlas 4th Edition also reveal much about thedevelopments of tobacco. One was the number of women smoking, theincreasing number of growing days and even exceeded in 25 states of men smoke.
Indonesia is not included in the 25 states, but in a thick 132 page bookis mentioned that the number of women smoking in Indonesia, includingmany of the 3.7 percent of all ages. At the age of 13-15 years, 1.9percent of young women have been smoking too.source
